Peppol and beyond
A key aspect of Banqup is its integration with the Peppol network. Peppol stands for Pan-European Public Procurement Online and is a secure, international network that standardizes the electronic exchange of documents, including invoices, between companies and public authorities. For German companies, this means that they can easily and securely send e-invoices via Peppol to a growing number of business partners in many European countries and worldwide, including public sector clients.
Peppol was originally developed to facilitate trade between European governments and to standardize electronic procurement procedures from one country to another. Peppol is now used worldwide, including in countries such as Australia and Singapore. Thanks to its broad membership, companies in these countries can easily exchange documents across borders.
The Peppol network is based on the so-called four-corner model, which comprises the four main players in the document exchange process: the sender, the recipient and the respective so-called access points on both sides. Access points act as interfaces between the participants in the electronic document flow. They ensure that the documents comply with Peppol standards and security protocols and can be exchanged smoothly. Banqup is a certified Peppol Access Point Provider, i.e. a certified Peppol service provider that connects you to the Peppol network and acts as an intermediary in the four-corner model.

At this point, it is also important to mention that the Peppol model is evolving. The so-called five-corner model, also known as Peppol CTC (Continuous Transaction Controls), extends the traditional model with a central tax platform. This extension enables real-time reporting to tax authorities and optimizes tax administration. The Peppol CTC model combines elements of existing CTC models with the Peppol infrastructure, creating a decentralized but regulated solution for document exchange.

To gain a deeper understanding of the evolving five-corner model (also DCTCE)we recommend that you read the article "Understanding the decentralized CTC and exchange model with Unifiedpost Group's Marcus Laube" on the Unifiedpost Group website. In this interview with Marcus Laube, then Co-Chair of GENAthe DCTCE model is explained in detail.
The Peppol participant ID (Peppol ID) is a unique reference that is used to determine who is sending and receiving a Peppol document. It serves as a key to identify the transaction partners in the network. The Peppol ID of the receiving company is published in the global Peppol directory managed by OpenPeppol together with the name of the organization and the country in which it is based.
But Banqup goes even further. We understand that not all of your international customers are connected to Peppol. That's why Banqup also offers the option to send invoices via other secure networks and even by email. This flexibility ensures that you always have the right solution at hand, regardless of your customer's location.

ViDA: The future of cross-border invoicing
In March 2025, the European Union adopted the ViDA(VAT in the Digital Age) initiative, which, among other things, provides for mandatory electronic invoicing for intra-Community transactions from 2030. This significant change will fundamentally alter the way companies in Europe exchange invoices.
With Banqup, you are already equipped for these new requirements and can secure a competitive advantage. Our platform supports you in the seamless transition to electronic invoicing.

It's that simple
- Create customer master record:
- Start by selecting the country of your customer and then enter the customer data.
- If required, you can also uncheck the box"The company's VAT is registered in the country of residence" and enter the country in which the registration took place.
- When the customer is saved, Banqup automatically determines whether the customer belongs to the Peppol network or another connected network. Banqup then suggests that you overwrite the delivery route you have selected accordingly if necessary.
- Create or upload an invoice: Create your invoice directly in Banqup or upload an existing invoice from your billing system or similar source. For uploaded invoices, our OCR tool, an optical character recognition technology, automatically extracts the most important invoice details. You only need to check these and complete them if necessary before you can send the invoice.
- Change standard delivery route (optional): The default delivery method stored for the customer is displayed here. You can change this for the individual invoice if required - Peppol, other network or e-mail.
- Send: Send your invoice securely and quickly with just one click.
